What is your background in art? How did you get started?
My background is actually in interior design and architecture. While I will always have a passion for design, I was drawn to the conceptual and visioning phases in the design process. I began watercolor painting as a way to express myself in a more patient and reflective way - I found it very relaxing.
What trends influence or inspire your artistic journey?
I am constantly searching for ways to express emotion through my painting - often those things that are difficult to express with words are the things I am striving to express through my practice.
What was the moment you knew art would be your career - not just a passion project?
There was the surreal moment when collectors began thanking me for sharing my work with the world. I was incredibly humbled by the sentiment and at the same time, I was doing what came so natural to me. I loved were interested in collecting my work and were interested in being a part of my journey.
How do you know when a piece is 'ready' to share?
If I have come to a painting session with a clear idea in my mind and I am focused and fluid during the painting process, and…if the intention became a reality, I will share that painting. Serenity, hope, and maybe even joy is the feeling I hope one if left with when interacting with my work. It is a calming experience for me to express it, and I hope that translates.
