<p>F/L David Hornell on his last mission June 24, 1944. Hornell's PBY Catalina aircraft was severly damaged after the attack and sinking of the German U-boat. Hornell successfully landed his damaged aircraft allowing the crew and himself to escape into the life dingy. Two of the crew members and Hornell unfortunately died of exposure before they were able to be rescued. Hornell was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross. Watercolor painting..</p>
