Allosaurus dinosaur, artwork. Allosaurus patrolling its territory, marked by a stream. Allosaurus was a large carnivorous dinosaur that was found throughout much of the world between 154 and 135 million years ago, during the late Jurassic period. It was the largest carnivore at this time, reaching a length of up to 12 metres and weighing around four tonnes. It is thought that Allosaurus hunted large herbivores such as Iguanodon, and may even have hunted in packs to attack giant sauropod dinosaurs such as Diplodocus. Fossils of Allosaurus have been found from tropical to polar regions.
