The fruits shown here have dark green skin with short fleshy spines. The fruits can grow to 15cm long. Although edible, the fruits can be sour and bitter are often used for their aromatic juice. This illustration comes from Old Worm's Museum Wormiamum, published at Amsterdam in 1655.</p>
