11/20/1961-Berlin, Germany- East German soldiers, policemen, militiamen and other workers labored through the night Nov. 19th through 20th to erect this new wall before the Brandenburg Gate. They turned the Communist refugee wall into a fortification designed to withstand a Western attack. The first wall was built August 13th to keep the East Germans in, an Allied official said. The new work is obviously aimed at keeping people out.
