Cushing Oil Fields

Item # 2226951

Waiting for the ferry near Tipton, Oklahoma, in the Cushing field around 1915. The Cushing pool, which tripled Tulsa's population, was for a while the greatest producer of light, oil in the world. It was also famous for a stunt pulled by its first prospector, who locked up all the town's live rigs in the stables and sent its notaries away on vacation to prevent would-be leaser's from getting acreage near his well. His name, appropriately enough: Thomas Slick.
