Engagement Between the Bonhomme Richard and the Serapis off Flamborough Head, 1779

Item # 1050032

Richard Willis

Richard Willis was born in 1924 and painted seascapes since he was a young boy. He was the youngest-ever exhibitor at the Royal Academy’s summer exhibition and has had a long and successful career as an artist since that time. Willis was educated at Harrow and served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. His wartime experiences have inspired much of his artwork, which often features ships, ocean waves, and seascapes. Even late into his 90s, Willis paints daily from where he lives at the Nynehead Court Residential Home.
