<p>Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Female mosquito head (Aedes aegypti): compound eye, antennae, proboscis and palp. Yellow fever and dengue fever carrier. Aedes aegypti can also transmit Zika virus to humans. Zika fever was first discovered in equatorial Africa and Asia in the 1950s. From 2014-16 Zika fever has spread to South America and the equatorial islands in the Pacific. There is a possible link between Zika fever and microcephaly in newborn babies of mothers who have been infected by the Zika virus.
