<p>Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Psyllid nymph (.) in a leaf gall from the Hawaiian Ohia lehua tree (Metrosideros polymorpha). . (Trioza lehua) lay eggs in the Hawaiian Ohia lehua leaf. Eggs develop and a leaf galls begin to form around the developing insects. The developing stages (larvae and nymph) feed off on the leaf until the immature adults emerge. This gall-forming psyllid causes major damage to some trees and eventual death. Psyllids, also known as jumping plant lice, are small plant-feeding insects that tend to be host specific. The Asian Citrus Psyllid (Diaphorina citri) carries a harmful bacterium (Liberibacter asiaticum) that causes a major disease in citrus plants.
