Geoheliocentric cosmology. Woodcut illustration depicting a view of the Solar System. This is known as a geoheliocentric system. The Earth is at the centre and is orbited by the Moon and Sun. The other planets orbit the Sun, although at such a distance as to appear to orbit the Earth. This cosmology was first developed by Tycho Brahe in rejection of the geocentric models of Copernicus and Kepler. This later version differs from the tychonic in that the orbits of Mars and the Sun do not cross here. This woodcut comes from 'De opere Dei creationis seu de mundo' by Helisaeus Roeslin, published at Frankfurt in 1597.
