About the Artwork
Historical artwork of the constellation of Leo - Item # 1154250
Leo. Coloured historical artwork of the constellation of Leo. The constellation is depicted as a lion. Leo is the fifth sign of the Zodiac. The Sun is in Leo between 23 July and 22 August. It is a prominent constellation, with the arrangement of stars bearing a resemblance to the figure they represent. The bright star Regulus forms the lion's heart, and the star Denebola is at the base of its tail. The Sun's path, the ecliptic, is shown by the black and red line at centre. This artwork is based on a sky map by the Polish-German astronomer Johannes Hevelius (1611- 1687), which was published posthumously in 1690.
