April (Aprile), by Benedetto da Milano upon drawing by Bramantino, c. 1503-1508, 16th Century, tapestry, Whole artwork view. Allegory of the month of April, celebrating the come back of the spring; in the middle of the scene, a big coat of arms of the lineage of Gian Giacomo Trivulzio, the governor of Milan; under the emblem stands up the personification of the month, represented by a young man with curly blond hair, crowned with roses, keeping a small branch of basil and pointing out the index of his right hand toward the sun; in the surrounding well-finished garden, which is embellished with sculptures pruned according to human features, gardeners, valets and nymphs bustle about bringing baskets full of fruits and flowers; in the foreground, at the feet of the basement on which is placed the statue, are sitting a boy and a girl with wreaths; the composition is completed by a red sun with a human face on the left upper corner and the Taurus zodiac sign on the opposite side., Tapestry, 1503, Sforza Castle, Milan, Lombardy, Italy.
