The Nauvoo Illinois Temple overlooks the Mississippi River and is a reproduction of the original temple under the same name that was built in the 1840s and later destroyed by arson in 1848 and tornadoes in 1850. A prominent feature of the Nauvoo Temple is a statue of the founder Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum Smith.
