<p>2/23/1942-Goleta, CA-View of one of the largest tideland oil well fields in the world,located near Goleta,which was shelled by an enemy submarine Feb. 23,which was presumed to be Japanese.The sub fired about 25 shells but there was no report of damage.This oil field has been operating since 1927 and has produced close to 100,000,000 gallons.Tankers load just off the shore from lines stretched on floats.This was the first hostile attack on the United States mainland since WWII started.</p>
