Placing The Keystone At The Top Of The St. Louis Arch, Missouri, 1965

Item # 2310980

1111965 - St. Louis, MO. Like a man-made rainbow, the gateway arch curves majestically over the heads of spectators (r) on hand to witness the placing of the keystone section of the nation's tallest monument, Oct. 28. The stainless steel arch, known as the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, was designed by Eero Saarinen and symbolizes St. Louis as the historical gateway to the west. When finished, it will contain a restaurant and a six-car elevator.
