Eleanor Doughty is a Seattle-based illustrator and urban sketcher. Sketchbook in hand, she travels her neighborhood and foreign countries the same way, pen in hand, eyes up. She lives with her partner in an apartment by the lake with 60 houseplants, give or take.

From the top of the observatory in Volunteer Park in Capitol Hill, Seattle, you can see all the way to the Olympic Mountains on a clear day. I was lucky it was so cloudless on this January day (a very rare event) that I could paint the landscape until my fingers froze and I finished it at home. The three antennas clustered on Queen Anne Hill are quite striking and give a nice contrast to the horizontal layers of the trees, city, Bainbridge Island in the background, and the snowy peaks of the mountains. I used watercolor, acrylic, and ink for this painting.
