<p>On April 21, 1962, President John F. Kennedy, Jr. pressed the key of a gold-nugget-encrusted telegraph key sending the message to Seattle and the world, Let the Fair begin! A crowd of 51, 510 people came that sunny day to the opening of the Seattle World's Fair. More than 10 million visitors came to the fair April 21 through October 21, a feat that amazed the fair organizers, participants and supporters. The Space Needle is 605 feet high (to the Aircraft Warning Beacon).</p>
