About the Artwork
Splitting the Herd - Item # 1933695
"Splitting the herd" is a watercolor of an actual roundup in California. The history is sketchy but I do remember the artist telling me that this painting, and "Spring Branding" were from an actual round up. It measures 43 1/2" X 33". It is Undated, but the date may be included in the artists numbering system 81-1830. LaVere Hutchings spent much of his time in Idaho before moving to Los Angeles, then on to Jamestown California where he painted until his death in l999. He is a member of the National Watercolor Society, and author of several books, including "Make your watercolors sing" by Northlight..
