The Post of The Desert. A fanciful 19th century British image representing an Egyptian postman riding a dromedary camel through the desert, while around him lie the corpses of a man and his horse who have presumably died of heat, dehydration, or possibly at the hands of brigands. At the head and foot are depictions of pyramids and of a group of Bedouin camel riding merchants in an oasis, relaxing under palm trees with armed guards. A pyramid is in the background. Several are smoking long pipes.
