About John James Audubon
John James Audubon (1785-1851) emerged as America’s leading wildlife artist and has contributed greatly to ornithology, art, and culture. As a self-trained artist, he is the most famous bird artist in the world and notable for extensively documenting American birds in their natural habitats. He wrote The Birds of America and is credited with identifying numerous new species of birds during his studies. Audubon’s artwork features birds of varying types living among the real landscapes they call home.
